Diisocyanates of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2 represent identical or different radicals and denote alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms, and R3 represents a divalent, optionally branched, saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 2-9 carbon atoms, with the proviso that, if R1 = R2 = methyl, R3 does not represent a 1,2-ethylene radical, and their use as isocyanate component in the preparation of polyurethane plastics by the isocyanate polyaddition process.
