A metering dispenser including a metering chamber (11) having an inlet port (12) and an outlet port (13), an inlet valve (14) for admitting flowable material to the metering chamber (11) and an outlet valve (15) for allowing discharge of material. Valve control means (16) is operative to control operation of the inlet and outlet valves (14, 15) and is electrically operable and including timing means, being a functional part of microprocessor 81, the timing means being operative to generate a timing signal. The valve control means (16) further includes electrically operable valve operating means (60) responsive to the timing signal generated by the timing means to change the dispenser from a fill to a discharge condition and to return the dispenser from its discharge to its fill condition after material discharge.
