PURPOSE:To improve the cutting of ink by the shrinkage of a release layer and to enhance printing quality, by forming a thermal transfer medium by successively laminating the release layer comprising a heat-shrinkable material and an ink layer to a base layer. CONSTITUTION:A release layer 22 comprising a heat-shrinkable resin such as polyvinyl chloride is laminated onto a base layer 20 comprising polyethylene terephthalate. Further, an ink layer 21, wherein a coloring material such as carbon black or oil black is mixed with wax such as paraffin wax and oil such as castor oil or a thermoplastic resin such as an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer is further mixed therewith if necessary, is laminated to the release layer to form an ink ribbon 6. The ink in a molten state can be separated from the solid ink by the shrinkage of the release layer and the cutting of the ink becomes well and printing quality can be held to a high degree. |
