The invention comprises trichloromethyl sulphenic esters of cyclic oximides of the formula <FORM:0779114/IV(b)/1> in which A is the residue of an organic dicarboxylic acid; and a method of preparing them by the action of perchloromethylmercaptan on a cyclic oximide, or its salt. In examples, perchloromethylmercaptan, Cl.S.CCl3, reacts with sodium 3 : 6 - endomethylene - D 4 - tetrahydrophthaloximide, sodium phthaloximide, sodium D 4-tetrahydrophthaloximide, sodium succinic oximide, sodium hexahydrophthaloximide, and sodium naphthaloximide, to give the corresponding sulphenic esters of the above formula in which A represents the substituted or unsubstituted phthalic, succinic, &c. residues. Suitable oximides referred to include also those from maleic and other aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, pyridine and quinoline dicarboxylic acids and camphoric acid, and are obtained by the action of hydroxylamine on cyclic anhydrides, or on the corresponding dicarboxylic acids or their diesters or dihalides. |
