PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc., or its synthetic raw material, in high purity and excellent color tone, in a state free from by-product, by reacting N,N-dialkylaminoaceto-nitrile with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II can by produced by reacting an N,N-dialkylaminoacetonitrile of formula I (R is methyl or ethyl) with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organic amine compound (e.g. triethylamine, pyridine etc.) and a cocatalyst consisting of sulfur or a sulfur-containing compound (e.g. sodium hydrosulfide) in an inert solvent such as isopropanol at 30-120 deg.C for 1-10hr. The molar ratio of the organic amine to the compound of formula I is 0.1-0.8 and the amount of the cocatalyst is 0.5-10pts.wt. per 1pt. of the compound of formula I. The reaction pressure of hydrogen sulfide is 1-5kg/cm<2>. |
