PURPOSE:To prevent the talking of a caller from being intermitted in a state of halfway by setting a recording stop position at a constant point before the end of a reception tape and releasing the message recording mode to the next call when the head position reaches the recording position. CONSTITUTION:A measuring/detection mechanism 1 consists of a rotary disk 1b provided to a tape feeding pulley 1a and a photocoupler 2, the rear face of the disk 1b is painted into white and black colors at equal circumferential angles, the reflectance of light is detected by the photocoupler 2, transduced into an electric signal and sent to a CPU 3. The pulse count number when the tape is rewound till the tape end is stored in a CPU 3 as the total length of the recepton tape and the recording stop position is set before the tape end. When the recording position exceeds the recording stop position in a call, the occupied processing is applied.
