PURPOSE:To constitute the titled device so that an operator can know the contents of plural translated words easily and can select the translated words appropriately, by displaying successively plural detected translated words in a translated sentence, in case there are two or more translated words which have been detected by a parallel translation dictionary. CONSTITUTION:An instruction of an English original train to be translated and a movement of a cursor, a carriage return, etc., is inputted from a keyboard, etc., of an input part 2 of an English - Japanese translating device, and a character-string of the original which has been inputted in edited by an editing part 4. This edited character-string is sent out to a translating part 6 and a display part 10, and also, a Japanese language train which has been translated by the translating part 6 is edited and sent out to the display part 10. Also, in case plural translated words and phrases exist against one piece of word or phrase as a result of conversion to Japanese by using a parallel translation dictionary 8 in the translating part 6, plural translated words and phrases which have been retrieved are sent out to the display part 10. Subsequently, by a time counting device 12, a time counting device of the editing part 4 is driven, plural translated words are displayed successively in a translation, the contents of plural translated words are informed to an operator, and the translated word can be selected easily.
