PURPOSE:To print a character row in a layout suitable for the predetermined range designated on paper without generating an erroneous character or the omission of a character, by providing a display means for displaying the character row to be printed on the paper and a projection means for projecting the image of the character row displayed on the display means on the paper. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal display 15 is a transmission type one and displays the character row to be printed on paper 12. The light from a light source 17 comes to parallel light by a cylindrical lens 16 to irradiate the liquid crystal display 15. The image of the character row displayed on the liquid crystal display 15 is formed on the paper 12 through an image forming lens 14. A printing head 13 is designed so as to print the character projected on the paper 12 at the projected position thereof. That is, the projected position of the character displayed on the liquid crystal display 15 on the paper 12 coincides with the printing position of the same character by the printing head 13 on the paper 12. By this constitution, the predetermined character row is printed on the predetermined range designated on the paper 12 in a suitable layout without generating an erroneous character and the omission of a character.
