PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive power source for an enhanced pulse in small size as the entire carbon dioxide gas laser with good semiconductor utility efficiency by connecting a pair of electrodes provided in a vessel in which carbon dioxide gas is sealed in parallel with a capacitor. CONSTITUTION:A carbon dioxide gas laser is composed of a pair of electrodes 12 formed in a vessel 11 in which carbon dioxide gas is sealed, a laser oscillator 1 for oscillating a laser by generating a glow discharge between the electrodes, a power source 2 connected between the electrodes 12, and a capacitor 3 connected in Parallel with the electrodes 12. For example, the electrodes 12 are connected through a limiting resistor 4 in series with the power source 2. When the voltage of the power source 2 is raised to arrive at a discharge starting voltage Vs, the oscillator 1 is glow-discharged to reduce the voltage of the electrode 12 to a maintaining voltage Ve. Thus, an abrupt pulse current ip flows. This pulse ip having a peak value corresponding to such an enhanced pulse current is supplied not from the power source 2 but from the capacitor 3. |
