Fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines with a valve needle (14) opening outwards and a damping plunger (52, 70, 72) coupled to the said needle on the opening lift by way of a drag connection, which plunger defines a fuel-filled damping chamber (96) which diminishes in size on the opening lift. According to the invention the damping plunger comprises two plunger parts (52, 70, 72) magnetically adhering to one another, of which that (70, 72) further removed from the valve needle (14) is caught on a shoulder (81), fixed to the housing, after a prelift, following which the plunger parts (52, 70, 72) are torn apart and only that plunger part (52) with the valve needle (14) advances into the limit position. The main fuel passage (90) leading to the injection orifice passes through both plunger parts (52, 70, 72) and the resulting gap (100) between the plunger parts (52, 70, 72) after they have been torn apart serves as relief passage for the damping chamber (96) so that the remaining lift of the valve needle (14) is largely undamped. <IMAGE>
