PURPOSE:To eliminate troublesome work such as to modify the storage of device information by storing device type information required for controlling a disk on the side of each device and transmitting said device type information with the aid of an information switching signal to the side of a host computer at the time of reading from said side. CONSTITUTION:A host system side activates a read action in order to receive the device type information. Receiving an information switching instruction from the host system side, a disk device takes the information out of a device type information storage circuit 1, and a device type information transmission circuit 3 converts said information into that of the device type the same as information read out of a disk device read circuit 2 and transmits the inputted device type information to an information switching circuit 4. An ID decision circuit 5 obtains the device type information through the information switching circuit 4, and recognizes the type of device. Upon the completion of the reception of the device type information, a device type information reception instruction storage circuit 6 resets a reception indication.
