The scotch blocks (4, 4') which secure, in the direction of travel, the semitrailer which is inserted into the piggyback wagon from above are used as crossbeams and combined to form a load-bearing component of an orthotropic plate (4, 11, 13, 14 and 4', 11', 13', 14'). Furthermore, this load-bearing component (orthotropic plate) is designed as a lower chord of a main longitudinal beam of the wagon, the upper chord (10, 10') of the main longitudinal member having a box cross-section. Wagon side panels (16, 16') with vertical ribs (15, 15') form the web of the main longitudinal beam. Both orthotropic panels are connected to one another by means of additional crossbeams (17). A self-supporting wagon body can thus be obtained which, with a given payload, has a lower weight than in the past. <IMAGE>
