PURPOSE:The titled material providing stable, high coefficient of friction against thermal fading phenomena and water fading phenomena, having improved wear resistance, obtained by blending a friction material of non-asbestos type consisting of a base material, a lubricating component, a filler and a binder with ferrophosphorous in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:(A) 40-90wt% friction material of non-asbestos type consisting of (i) a base material (e.g. aromatic polyamide, glass fibers, etc.), (ii) preferably 1-15wt% lubricating component (e.g. graphite, molybdenum disulfide, etc.), (iii) preferably 0-15wt% filler (e.g. barium sulfate, calcium carbonate, etc.), (iv) preferably 1-15wt% friction adjustor (e.g. cashew dust, magnesium oxide, etc.) and (v) a binder (e.g. phenolic resin, etc.) is blended with (B) 10-60wt% ferrophosphorous (preferably ferrophosphorous 1 or 2) to give the aimed material.
