PURPOSE:To detect 2<n-1>¦A-B¦<2<n> according to relation in magnitude of A, B by giving a logical operation on a comparative output of a highest bit comparator and using the result of the operation as an input data for A>B and B>A detectors. CONSTITUTION:Each corresponding bit of 4 bit binary data A, B is supplied to input (a), (b) of 1 bit comparators 1-4, and when bit of data A becomes larger, '1' is generated in output (c), and when bit of data B becomes larger, '1' is generated in output (d), and when the two bits are equal, '1' is generated in output (e), and supplied respectively to a coincidence detector 5, an A>B detector 6, and a B>A detector 7. Output (c), (d), (e) of a most significant bit comparator 1 is supplied to a comparison detection mode switching device 8, and logical operation is made to make detectors 6, 7 A>B, B<A detection mode and to make 2<3(A-B)<2<4>, 2<3(B-A)<2<4> detection mode when a mode command signal SEL is '1', and output w, y is obtained.
