PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a polymer improver, etc., from a silicon halide compound and a cyanate readily in high yield and in high purity, by using a tertiary amine salt or a secondary amine salt as a reaction promotor. CONSTITUTION:A halogen-containing silicon compound shown by the formula RnSiX4-n (R is monofunctional hydrocarbon; X is halogen except fluorine; n is 0-3 integer) is reacted with an (iso)cyanate shown by the formula M(NCO)m or M(OCN)m [M is alkaline(earth)metal or ammonium; m=1 or 2] preferably in an organic solvent by the use of a tertiary amine or a secondary amine (preferably triethylamine hydrochloride, etc.) to give the aimed compound shown by the formula RnSi(NCO)4-n. Sodium cyanate is preferable as the (iso)cyanate. The reaction is preferably carried out at room temperature-150 deg.C.
