PURPOSE:To readily obtain an optically active amino acid from an inexpensive raw material in good yield, by asymmetrically isomerizing a Schiff base in the presence of a specific catalyst and hydrolyzing the resultant optically active imine compound. CONSTITUTION:A Schiff base expressed by formula I (R1 and R4 are H or lower alkyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl or aryl; R3 is lower alkyl; X is electron attrative group) is asymmetrically isomerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a CO compound, e.g. COCl2, optically active tertiary phosphine and reducing agent, e.g. HAli-Bu2, at 60-100 deg.C for several hr - 20hr to give an optically active imine compound expressed by formula II, which is then hydrolyzed by a conventional method to afford the aimed substance expressed by formula III. The catalyst consisting of the three components is preferably constituted of the CO compound, optically active tertiary phosphine compound and reducing agent at 1:1-4:3-5 molar ratio.
|
