PURPOSE:To obtain a polyamide having improved heat resistance characteristic, mechanical strength, dimensional stability, transparency, moldability, etc., by heating a low-degree condensate consisting of specific two kinds of structural units in a molten state while kneading under shearing condition and polycondensing the above-mentioned condensate. CONSTITUTION:A low-degree condensate consisting of isophthaloyldiamine component units expressed by formula I (R<0> is 4-25C bifunctional hydrocarbon) and diacyloyldiamine component units expressed by formula II (Ar is 6-20C bifunctional aromatic hydrocarbon) is heated in a molten state under shearing condition by using a kneading means to carry out polycondensation and afford the aimed polymer consisting of 50-100mol% units expressed by formula I and 0-50mol% units expressed by formula II. A kneader, etc., is preferably used as the above-mentioned kneading means. The low-degree condensate consisting of the units expressed by formula I and units expressed by formula II is obtained by reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid component, e.g. terephthalic acid, etc., with a diamine component, e.g. hexamethylenediamine, etc., at 200-300 deg.C.
