PURPOSE:To miniaturize the shape of a tape recorder by providing one reel base to which one tape reel fixed with one tape end is engaged freely removably and other reel base to which other tape reel locked with other tape end freely removably is provided incorporatedly. CONSTITUTION:The one reel base 26 to which a tape cassette 1 fixed with one end of a tape 18 is engaged freely removably and the other reel base 27 to which other tape reel 39 locked freely removably with the other end 19 of the tape is provided incorporatedly are provided. Then the tape is run by driving the reel base while the tape cassette 1 is engaged with the one reel base 26 and the other end of the tape is locked to the other tape reel 39. The position of the two tape reels 12, 39 is not restricted in any horizontal or height direction. Thus, the distance to the head drum in the horizontal direction, the relation of position of the said three members and the relation of height are set optionally and the size is nearly halved in comparison with the size of a conventional tape cassette.
