PURPOSE:To obtain a polysaccharide MA9 useful as an antitumor agent in high yield and purity compared with conventional method, by extracting bark of Melia azadirachta with boiling hot water under pressure. CONSTITUTION:Bark of Melia azadirachta is extracted with boiling hot water under pressure and the extract is purified by conventional method such as precipitation with alcohol, permeation with membrane, ultrafiltration, etc., to obtain the objective polysaccharide MA9. The boiling under pressure is preferably carried out under 1-3atm (gauge pressure). Polysaccharide MA9 can be produced in a yield of more than twice as high as the conventional method comprising the hot water-extraction under normal pressure. The obtained MA9 has higher purity and lower coloring impurity content than the MA9 produced by conventional method. |
