PURPOSE:To perform doping at low temp. in a short time and with high productivity and to prepare cylindrical lens array with high efficiency by preparing porous glass rod and rod array by the sol-gel process and doping the rod and array with a dopant. CONSTITUTION:Gel 11 is prepd. by casting a liquid consisting primarily of at least one kind of metal alcoholate, org. solvent, and water, and the gel is dried. Then, the gel is masked 12 on a suitable range and dipped in a soln. 13 contg. metal ion or metal alcoholate of different kind of metal to the above-described metal alcoholate for a specified time to diffuse the metal ion or metal alcoholate to the rod to reduce refractive index in the peripheral part of the gel. The gel is taken out of the soln. thereafter and is dried. Next, the mask 12 is removed and the rod part is buried in polymer resin 14, and the rod part is cut from a base. A cylindrical lens array is prepd. by polishing the top and bottom face of the rod. |
