PURPOSE:To obtain a traveller subjected to surface hardening treatment at required part in high yield, by carrying out the surface-hardening treatment of a metallic wire in continuous form, cutting the wire successively while forming to a form of traveller and hardening and tempering the product. CONSTITUTION:A wire 1 for traveller is optionally worked to a flat wire and subjected to surface-hardening treatment in continuous form. When the wire 1 is wound round a drum 2, etc., in single layer and immersed in a treatment medium 4 for the surface-hardening treatment, the surface of the wire 1 contacting with the drum 2 is left unhardened and the hardening treatment is applied only to the other part of the wire. The treated wire is formed in the form of a traveller in a manner that the hardened face of the wire forms the inward surface of the traveller and is divided into individual travellers 3. The obtained traveller is hardened and tempered. |
