PURPOSE:To obtain a screen display device which is excellent in a man-machine interface such as a temporary display, a retrieval screen display, etc., by using effectively the binary image memory of a small capacity. CONSTITUTION:For instance, an image A stored din a multivalued image memory 1 is converted to the binary image data of a pseudo halftone by an image converting part 8 in accordance with an instruction from a main control part 5, and stored in an exclusive binary image memory 9. In case when there is a request for displaying again the image A, the image A which has been generated in advance is switched and displayed on a display screen, until the image A is inputted again from the outside. Until the original image A is inputted and displayed, a user views the picture A of a pseudo halftone and can perform a work which requires no detailed information.
