PURPOSE:To minimize the variation in composition and temperature is a furnace and simplify an apparatus, by raising a furnace body when the residual amount of a molten slag in the furnace attains a given value and charging the next slag and component adjusting material in tilting a smelting furnace, adjusting the component and charging the molten slag into a fiber making machine. CONSTITUTION:A blast furnace slag is charged into a electric furnace 1 by a pan cart 2 and a component adjusting material is added from a pipe 15. The furnace body is then tilted by hydraulic cylinders 11 and pistons 12 to charge the molten slag from a discharge outlet 4 into a fiber making machine 5 and produce rock wool. In the process, the suitable residual amount of the molten slag in the furnace is determined from the difference between the total weight of the electric furnace 1 and the weight of the furnace body. When the residual amount attains the given amount, the furnace body is raised to charge the next molten slag and component adjusting material into the furnace 1. The residual amount in the furnace is determined by the variation ranges of the components and temperature of the charging raw material and is preferably about 70-80wt% based on the prescribed charging amount in the furnace 1. The temperature in the furnace 1 is gradually increased before the amount of the raw material in the furnace 1 attains the given residual amount and kept at a heating level (about standard temperature + or -20 deg.C).
