Process for providing flexible textile articles with codings

The invention relates to a process for providing flexible textile articles, especially bedding, towels and the like, with codings, especially with barcodes representing multi-digit numbers and/or letters, the elements of the code and/or barcode being formed by a contrast thread introduced into the fabric of the textile article. The contrast thread is resistant to pressure and to heat, is flexible, can be detected electrooptically or magnetically and can be sewn, woven or drawn into the fabric of the textile article. The coding of the textile article thus has a contrast which is always constant.
