PURPOSE:To obtain a solid-state laser rod, in which a thermal lens effect is restricted, by coating the outer circumferential surface of a rod consisting of a YAG single crystal containing Nd ions with a thin layer composed of a YAG single crystal containing no impurity. CONSTITUTION:A rod of specified size is punched from a YAG ore to which Nd<3+> ions are doped, the side surface of the rod is polished and processed, the rod is etched and treated by hot phosphoric acid heated at 180 deg.C, and a strain layer by processing is removed. A YAG single crystal containing no impurity is grown in approximately 400mum through an LPE method on the rod. Consequently, a YAG single crystal layer 2 containing no impurity does not absorb beams, and temperature distribution is made smaller than the side surface of the YAG laser rod 1 is cooled directly when the layer 2 is formed in several hundred micron. When temperature distribution is reduced, a thermal lens effect is also minimized, thus acquiring a high output at single-mode oscillation. Accordingly, the side surface of the YAG single crystal rod containing Nd is coated with a thin layer consisting of the YAG single crystal containing no impurity having no stress, thus minimize the thermal lens effect due to temperature distribution and stress. |
