PURPOSE:To recover a part where is damaged by an overlap in the first video signal by recording a video signal part in the first video signal where is damaged by the overlap with the second video signal on a recording medium so as to reproduce separately from an overlap signal. CONSTITUTION:The image pickup signal part of an image part (e) and that of an image part (b) are gated from the image pickup signal of an image (a) from a camera 21 at a gate circuit 22, and the former is supplied to an A/D converter 24, and the latter to a mixer 28. The character signal of an image (d) from a character signal generation circuit 27 is supplied to the mixer 28, then being overlapped on the image pickup part (b), and it is FM-modulated at an FM modulator 29, then being supplied to a mixer 26. Also the signal part from the A/D converter 24 is made into PCM at a PCM encoder 25, and is mixed with an overlapping signal to be FM-modulated at the mixer 26, and after it is amplified at a recording amplifier 30, the modulation signal to be FM-modulated of the overlapping signal of the image signal part (b) and the character signal (d) and the PCM image pickup signal part (e) are recorded as still pictures respectively on each video track part Tv and on each sound track part Ta on two oblique tracks T on a magnetic tape 33.
