The invention relates to the tensioning of transmission belts and to the mechanics of motor vehicles. In this water pump, the support 7 of the rotor 4 carries the latter, with a pulley 2 encircled by the belt to be tensioned, on a rotary shaft 3 which rotates on an axis which is eccentric with respect to that of the body 6 of the pump. The support 7 may rotate within the body of the pump, and it comprises a hexagonal prismatic sleeve, which is gripped with a spanner to cause the support to rotate in the body of the pump. Locking means 15 make it possible to lock the support 7. Main applications: water pumps of motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
