NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic SA-16-10 having the following physical and chemical properties. Melting point: 85-89 deg.C; elemental analysis: C 61.44wt%, H 6.72wt%; molecular weight: 312.5; molecular formula: C16H21O4Cl; specific rotatory power: [alpha]<23>D=-159 deg. (C=0.7); positive in sulfuric acid-ferric chloride, KMnO4 reaction; soluble in chloroform, methanol, ethyl acetate, diethyl ether and benzene, insoluble in water, etc. USE:An antibacterial agent against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, aerobic bacteria and anaerobic bacteria. PREPARATION:A strain [preferably (Streptomyces bungoensis) MS16-10G (FERM p-8432)] belonging to the genus Streptomyces, capable of producing antibiotic SA-16-10, is cultivated. |
