1275547 Cyclohexylene diisocyanates BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 28 Jan 1970 [5 Feb 1969] 4197/70 Heading C2C 1,3-Cyclohexylene diisocyanates are prepared by (a) reacting a solution of at least one 1,3- cyclohexanediamine of formula in which each R is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 8 alkyl group, in an inert solvent with a mixture of phosgene and hydrogen chloride each being used in an amount in excess of one mole per equivalent of amine; and (b) contacting the resulting reaction product with phosgene at a suitable temperature to form the corresponding diisocyanate. Preferably stage (a) is carried out at 0-85‹ C. and step (b) at 50-250‹ C. Preferred solvents are aromatic hydrocarbons and saturated lower alkyl esters.
