PURPOSE:To obtain a calculation system and apparatus corresponding to all logical expressions and to suppress the increase in the scale of a computer by time serially indicating the logical expressions by a main addition standard type or main multiplication standard type using optical waveguides and optical switches. CONSTITUTION:This device has the construction consisting in coupling two pieces of the parallel optical waveguides 2, 3 by the optical switches 4, 5 at two points, forming one route of one set of such coupled waveguides, arraying the routes in parallel by as much as the number of logical variables x, y, z,... and bundling the terminals at one end thereof. the incident light on one waveguide of the respective sets at the unbundled ends of the waveguides makes substn. into the logic variables by the 1st optical switch. All of the 2nd optical switches 5 of the respective sets constitute the 1st term in the main addition standard type or main multiplication standard type. Detectors 6, 7 are placed at the bundled ends to determine the logical value of that term. The logical values of the respective terms are successively and time serially determined, by which the results of the calculation for all the terms are obtd.
