NEW MATERIAL:A 2-halo-2-cyclopentenone derivative expressed by formula I [X is halogen; R is alkyl or COOR3 (R3 is alkyl, benzyl, etc.); R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is acyloxy; R4 is H or protecting group of hydroxyl group; the broken line indicates single bond or double bond; Q is OH when the broken line indicates single bond and Q is H when the broken line indicates OH or double bond] and salt thereof. EXAMPLE:2-Chloro-4-methyl-4-tetrahydropyranyloxy-5-[ (4R)-4-acetyloxy-6- methoxycarbonyl-2-hexenylidene ]-2-cyclopentenone. USE:Useful as an antitumor treating agent for preventing and treating tumors of humans and animals. PREPARATION:A 2-halo-4,4-substituted-2-cyclopentenone expressed by formula II is reacted with an aldehyde derivative expressed by formula III to afford a compound expressed by formula IV in the compound expressed by formula I.
