An apparatus for conveying carrying laths beneath green bricks advanced on conveyor belts is composed of a buffer path on which the carrying laths, located flush against one another, are advanced to a stop, and of an adjoining conveyor path on which the carrying laths are conveyed into the region of the conveyor belts. The conveyor path is composed of two spaced-apart, parallel endless lengths of chain on which the carrying laths rest with their end regions. Stops for determining the position of the carrying laths taken from the buffer path are arranged on the upper strand of each length of chain. In the region of the buffer path there is arranged a retaining strip which can be moved up and down and presses the second carrying lath, located behind the front carrying lath, against a counter-holder and fixes it there. Alongside each length of chain, a sliding strip is arranged, the upper edges of which project slightly beyond the upper strand of the lengths of chain.
