PURPOSE:To operate the latest use priority function extending over KANJI (Chinese character)words and phrases and a single KANJI, by setting the dictionary number information extending over the KANJI words and phrases and the single KANJI. CONSTITUTION:KANJI words and phrases outputted from a KANJI word and phrase converting device 12, dictionary number information corresponding by 1-to-1 to KANJI words and phrases outputted from a KANJI word and phrase number generating device 16, a single KANJI outputted from a single KANJI converting device 14, and dictionary number information corresponding by 1-to-1 to a single KANJI outputted from a single KANJI number generating device 17 are stored in a keyword memory 18, respectively. In this state, a stored homophone in the memory 18 is sent to a homophone defining circuit 19, and the dictionary number information of the homophone defined by an operator is outputted to a dictionary number registering device 20. The registering device 20 retrieves whether its dictionary number is registered already in a provisional dictionary memory 21 or not, and if it is not registered, its dictionary number is stored in the head of the dictionary memory 21.
