The starting cpds. have formula:- (where R4, R5 and R6 are same or different H or aliphatic gp. or both R5 and/or both R6 gps. may together form an oxo gp. and/or R4 and one R6 gp. may form an aliphatic gp. with a substd. methylene gp. or >=2C or both R5 gps. and one R6 gp. or one R5 gp. and both R6 gps. or both R5 gps. and both R6 gps. may together form an aliphatic gp.). These are then oxidised by known methods.
