The current-limiting device (1), which can preferably be used in power transmission networks, has a ferromagnetic core (6) with an inductor coil (26) through which the current (I) to be monitored flows, and a magnet (e.g. 17). The magnetic flux (0M) of the magnet (17) saturates the ferromagnetic core (6) at operating current levels. If short-circuit currents occur, the saturation of the ferromagnetic core (6) is cancelled against the effect of the magnet (17). This increases the reactance of the inductor coil (26) and thus limits the current. In this current-limiting device (1) it is intended that effective current limiting be achieved without the magnet (e.g. 17) being subjected to the influence of the magnetic field of the inductor coil (26). This is achieved in that the ferromagnetic core (6) contains a partial core (24), designed as a closed ring, and that the magnet (e.g. 17) is arranged in an air gap, located outside the partial core (24), of a magnetic circuit which contains a partial piece (limb 9) through which flows the magnetic flux (0R) of the inductor coil (26).

|
