Electrode unit (1) to be used for purification of emulsions and polluted waters, especially oil-bearing waters, by means of electrolysis in the manner that the liquid to be treated is made to flow past electrodes (2a, 2b) which together form an adjustable spacing between the electrode tips. When only one soluble electrode is used, the feeding of this electrode causes a quite big problem, especially when a fairly high purification effect is wanted. In the present invention, this problem is solved by forming the electrodes of vertically placed plates (2a, 2b) made of a soluble material, whereby each of them is insulated from the adjacent plates, and by including means for keeping the current density between the electrodes, i.e. the so-called tip effect, within the desired area. The depth of immersion of the electrode unit is preferably kept low, whereby between the plates (2a, 2b) a quite high current density is reached, whereby also a flocculation of impurities in the liquid to be treated is effective. In order to prevent a passivation of the electrodes (2a, 2b), the unit is fed from a direct-current supply, whereby the polarity of its voltage is periodically changed. |
