PURPOSE:To raise the reliability for transmitting and receiving a signal by providing a solar cell which is operated by external light, on a part of a card base which is displayed on the outside at the time of insertion to a reader/write, and providing an internal power source on a portable storage medium. CONSTITUTION:When a portable storage medium which has been carried is inserted to a prescribed position in a reader/write 6, a solar cell 11 is operated and a DC power is supplied to a microcomputer 12, a memory 13, and an I/O interface 14 in a semiconductor chip 2, and also a DC bias voltage is applied to a photodetector 5. When the DC power is supplied to the microcomputer 12 and the memory 13, a necessary program is read out to the microcomputer 12 from the memory 13 and the microcomputer 13 is set to a start state. A password of an individual of a user, which has been read out of the memory 13 of the portable storage medium side is sent to a computer of the read/writer 6 side through a light emitting element 4 and a photodetector 8, its computer is also started and a state that transmission and reception can be executed is set to the portable storage medium and the reader/writer 6. |
