The bromo-steroids are reacted with a polyvalent metal salt in which the metal is present in a higher state of oxidn. by oxidn. with free hydrogen radicals, such as a chromous salt of a lower carboxylic acid. The free hydrogen radicals are liberated by a thiol or thi-phenol in an inert polar solvent. The process can be used for removal of halogen without apparent attack on the adjacent C atom.
