PURPOSE:To enable antifouling paint to be coated economically and with excellent fuel consumption efficiency, by a method wherein the paint compositions of the antifouling paints for the flat part of a ship bottom and a ship's side part are different from each other, the paint film wearing speed of the paint for the ship bottom flat part is set to a value specified timed as large as that of the ship's side part. CONSTITUTION:A hydrolytic antifouling paint containing an organic zinc pendant polymer as carrier is used for a ship's side part, and an antifouling paint containing both an organic zinc pendant polymer and a radical polymerization type hydrophilic polymer as a carrier is used for a ship bottom flat part. Since the ship bottom flat part of a ship sailing on waves is increased in friction resistance exercising the influence on film wear compared with other portion, the paint film of the antifouling paint of the ship bottom flat part having a film wearing speed exceeding one time and below ten times as large as that of the antifouling paint coated on the ship's side is prevented from excessive wear compared with a paint film on other portion, and has a proper paint film wearing speed in practice. Thus, coarseness of a paint film is also decreased at the ship bottom flat part, and coarseness of a paint surface is decreased throughout the whole surface of the ship outer board, resulting in improvement of fuel consumption. |
