What is described is an apparatus for the filling of pasty material by means of an automatic piston-type filling machine, there being used a vacuum-connection unit which consists of an auxiliary cylinder connected to the filling-cylinder space, a control piston movable in the auxiliary cylinder and a detector for providing a monitoring cross-section in the auxiliary cylinder.
