The lifting and setting-down device consists of four winches 10 which can preferably be operated by crank handles 15 and by means of which a box-shaped object, e.g. in the form of a cabin 11, can be lifted, set down or even supported in a raised position. In order, on the one hand, to stow the four winches 10 in a space-saving manner on the cabin 11 and, on the other hand, to move them with little manual effort into their operating positions and vice versa, the winches 10 are arranged in pairs in each case on the end walls 26 of the cabin 11 so as to be displaceable transversely to the longitudinal axis of the cabin 11. Attached to the end walls 26 of the cabin 11 are guide profiles 27 and guide elements 31 in which the extension arms 19 and 20 of the winches 10 are seated displaceably. The arrangement is such that the winches 10, when retracted completely, are located in a stowage position relative to the end walls 26 of the cabin 11 within their width. On the other hand, the extension arms 19 of the winches 10 and their guide profiles 27 are so long that the winches 10 can be displaced outwards from their stowage positions into their operating positions spaced laterally away from the cabin 11. <IMAGE>
