For the ultrasonic measurement of soft, pressure-deformable materials (3, 3') without the use of pressure on the material to be measured or its surface region, use is made of an ultrasonic measurement cushion (2) composed of a viscous, elastic and pressure-deformable material which is brought into contact with the surface to be measured. Normally an ultrasonic recording is made, the measurement head (1) being in permanent contact with the surface of the ultrasonic conductor cushion (2) during the measurement process.
