PURPOSE:To eliminate ruggedness in the position of a subcutting edge with each tip uniformly wearing and extend its life while obtain a smoothly finished surface with no step difference, by setting a positioning base surface, which determines a forming position of the subcutting edge, to a cross section parallel with a rake face of the tip. CONSTITUTION:Height of a positioning wall part 23a in a measuring jig 21a, being set so that an upper edge part 25 of the wall part 23a is adapted to a flank 8 of a tip P in a position 1/3-2/3 the thickness of the tip P, is formed almost equal to a positioning wall part of a supporter. And if a cylindrical reference pin 24 of fixed diameter, being brought into contact with a seating surface 22, brings the peripheral surface into contact with the upper edge part 25, a plane position of the reference pin 24 corresponds to a position of the reference pin 24 when a cross section of the tip P in the height of the upper edge part 25 is set to the positioning base surface. Thereupon, a subcutting edge 4 sets its position being measured from the periphery or the center of the reference pin 24. In this way, ruggedness is eliminated in a position of the subcutting edge with each tip P uniformly wearing and extending a life, and a smoothly finished surface with no step difference can be obtained.
