PURPOSE:To obtain a recording material useful for pressure-sensitive recording, thermal recording or the like, by supporting a polymer of an electron-donative colorless dye and an electron-acceptive compound for developing the color of the dye by making contact therewith on a base. CONSTITUTION:The polymer of the electron-donative colorless dye can be obtained by homopolymerization or copolymerization of a colorless dye having a vinyl group. When using the copolymer, it is preferable that the comonomer ratio of the dye is not less than 20mol%, and radical polymerization is applied to emulsion polymerization in obtaining the copolymer. The colorless dye having a vinyl group is synthesized by bring a colorless dye having an active hydrogen atom such as -OH and -NH into reaction with a compound having an active group, such as an ester or isocyanate having a vinyl group. A phenol compound, such as an alkylenebisphenol and a cycloalkylenebisphenol, or a phenol compound having an electron-attractive group is useful as the electron-acceptive compound.
