PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel cell having a gas diffusion electrode forming a stable three-phase interface by forming a matrix catalyst layer comprising carbon powder and fluorine resin between an electrode catalyst layer and a matrix layer. CONSTITUTION:A unit cell is formed by arranging an electrode catalyst layer 2 in the front of a matrix layer 4 impregnated with electrolyte and a pair of rib-formed electrode 1 in which passages of fluid fuel and fluid oxidizing agent are formed in its back. A plurality of unit cells are stacked by arranging a separator which electrically connects units cells between unit cells to constitute a fuel cell. In the fuel cell, a matrix catalyst layer 3 comprising carbon powder and a binder is placed between the matrix layer 4 and the electrode catalyst layer 2. By forming matrix catalyst layer 3, wetability for forming good three- phase interface is given to the electrode catalyst layer having strong water repellency for increasing gas diffusion. |
