PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a duplicated image by comparing a video signal at an odd number field and an even number field, detecting a part of a signal difference as an animation part and replacing the animation part with a video signal. CONSTITUTION:When an animation part exists in still picture information, a subtractor 26 takes a difference signal between the animation part and a signal before 262H and a subtractor 27 takes a difference between the animation part and a signal before 263H. The difference signals are detected as absolute values by absolute value detection circuits 28, 29 and outputted via a maximum value detection circuit 30. The output of the maximum value detection circuit 30 corresponds to the part causing a double image at the odd and even number fields of the animation picture part, and the output of a field memory 23 and an output before 1H are added by an adder 25 at the part causing the double image and fed to the field memory 23 as a vertical interpolation signal in place of the output of the field memory 21. Thus, the picture of the even number field is replaced into the picture of the odd number field at the animation picture part. Thus, a still picture without any double image is obtained.
