A method for stamping in predetermined breaking points for excess pressure in the base of extruded or deep-drawn capacitor cups made of metal by means of a punch having stamping edges, the stamping edges projecting from an essentially flat surface of the punch, consists in that the base of the capacitor cup is supported by its outside on a fixed, essentially flat support, that the stamping operation is performed on the inside of the base and that, during stamping, the flat surface of the punch is brought into contact, under pressure, with the inside of the base, metal thereby being displaced towards the edge of the base while forming an essentially smooth outside of the base.
