<p>Disclosed are crosslinked elastomeric compositons particularly suitable as a jacketing material for plenum cable. The compositions are based upon a mixture of an elastomeric component comprising an elastomeric copolymer of ethylene and methyl acrylate containing carboxylic crosslinking sites and from about 180 parts to about 350 parts by weight of at least one filler per 100 parts by weight of the elastomeric component to provide a limiting oxygen index of at least about 45 percent. Although the compositions may contain further additives such as processing aids, crosslinking agents, anti-oxidants, plasticizers and flame retardants, they are able to meet or exceed the flame spread and optical density requirements of Underwriters Laboratories UL 910 Tunnel Flame Test for electrical plenum cable jacketing material without the necessity of containing halogens.</p> |
