Aliphatic amines of formula (I) in which R1 is an opt. unsatd. 7-23C gp., and R2 and R3 are H or opt. unsatd. 1-24C gp., for use as intermediates for surfactants, rust preventatives, fungicides and dye auxiliaries, are made by reaction of a cpd. of formula HNR2R3 (with a cpd. of formula R1CH2W) in which W is -OH or -CHO, opt. in presence of hydrogen, at 100-350 deg.C.
