PURPOSE:To make possible the manufacture of an ingot having fine crystalline structure by detecting the temp. of a molten metal under dropping in a drop casting method, feeding the detected information back to a temp. control device and controlling the supply currents to electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Electric currents are supplied from current supplying devices 18, 18 to counter electrodes 11, 11 to generate an arc 13 and the molten metal drops 14 are dropped into a casting mold 12. The radiation energy emitted from the molten drop 14 passing through the one-dimensional measuring field A set in the prescribed position below the electrode 11 is detected by a temp. detector 15 and is converted to a temp. signal by a signal processor 16. The above-mentioned temp. is fed back to the temp. control device 17 which controls the currents to be supplied to the electrodes 11, 11 so as to maintain the the temp. of the liquid drops 14 between the solidus line and liquidus line of the electrode metal. The manufacture of the ingot having the fine crystal structure is thus made possible.
